2.       Connect your Domain to Shopify - Connecting your third-party domain to Shopify points your domain name at your Shopify store. You still use the third-party domain provider to manage your domain settings, pay for your domain, and renew it.

However, before transferring your domain to Shopify, there are certain things to consider. First of all, the domain should have been registered for more than 60 days and should be eligible for transfer. 

Most domains are transferrable in Shopify, but some such as .ca domains are not legible.

It takes about 20 days for the transfer to complete and you pay to register your domain for 12 months. The 12 months are added to your domain’s current expiry date. 

Another important thing is you must have access to your original domain provider account and email that you use to log in to it and to avoid missing information during transfer process, you need to make sure that your email address does not belong to the domain that you want to transfer to. 

This is because you will need to monitor and respond to confirmation emails to complete the transfer process.

Lastly, before you transfer your domain to Shopify, you need to use a third-party email hosting service with email forwarding from Shopify. Shopify does not provide email hosting services but does provide unlimited email forwarding accounts.

Procedure to follow:

·         Check the transfer policy of your domain provider-Most providers support domain transfers. Before you begin the transfer process, check your domain provider's transfer policy, usually, you get the information from your provider’s help center.

·         Connect your domain to Shopify- Connecting your domain before youbegin transfer is advisable to avoid any interruptions in service before you begin the transfer. 

Visitors to your domain may experience connection errors during the transfer process if you do not connect first. It is also important to make sure that the connection process is complete before you start on transferring. It may take up to 48 hours to complete.

·         Prepare your domain for transfer – You prepare by logging in to your third-party domain provider account, confirming that the email address associated with your account is up to date and does not belong to the domain you want to transfer to.

 If your current email address is connected to your domain, then it will be disabled during the transfer.

·         You will also need to find the settings for the domain that you want to transfer, and click Unlock. Some domain providers require you to approve this choice by clicking on a link in a confirmation email. 

At this point you should also get a transfer authorization code from your provider. Typically, getting a transfer authorization code involves finding the settings for the domain that you want to transfer, then clicking Transfer this domain or Transfer out

This process varies by third-party domain provider. If you have trouble preparing your domain for transfer, then contact your third-party domain provider.

·         Transfer your domain- After unlocking your domain you need to have a transfer authorization code. If you don't have a transfer authorization code, then make sure you've followed all the steps to prepare your domain for transfer.

1.      From your Shopify admin, click Online Store > Domains

2.      Click Transfer domain.

3.      Enter the domain that you want to transfer to Shopify. Do not include www. at the beginning of the domain.

4.      Click Next.

5.      Click Verify domain.

6.      Depending on which message is displayed, do one of the following:

·         If DOMAIN UNLOCKED is displayed, then the domain is ready to be transferred. Click Next to continue.

·         If DOMAIN LOCKED is displayed, then make sure you have followed step to prepare your domain for transfer.

7.      In the Verification code dialog box, enter the authorization code, or EPP code, given by your aadomain provider.

8.      Click Next.

9.      Click Buy and transfer.

10.  Check the email account. Depending on your domain provider, you might have an email asking you to confirm these changes. The email message varies, but you need to approve the domain transfer by clicking a link such as Confirm Transfer or Approve Transfer.

It takes up to 20 days for the transfer to complete after your approval. You will receive an email from Shopify confirming that your domain is transferred.

 It is important to note that your domain will continue to work during transfer if you connect first to the Shopify store.

Transferring domain to Spotify from other third parties like NameCheap, GoDaddy and Hostinger, the steps are more or less the same, only that transfer policies may be different. Hence it is very important to check the transfer policy of your domain.

 For example when GoDaddy privacy protection is enabled, it is against their policy to allow domain transfers. Any GoDaddy Domain transfer requests submitted while DomainsByProxy is active, will be declined.

Step 1: Check domain provider transfer policy 

Many other suppliers support transfers of domains. Before you start the transfer process, check the transfer policy of your domain provider.


 

Step 2: Before your domain can be transferred to Shopify

Log in to your domain supplier account from a third party.

Verify that your account's email is up-to-date. You will receive emails to this account during the domain transfer process to which you need to react.

Unlock the domain you'd like to transfer. This will generally require finding the domain settings to be transferred, then clicking Unlock.

Get your provider's transfer permission code. This generally includes finding the domain configurations you want to transfer and then clicking Transfer this domain.


Before you transfer your domain, your domain needs to be unlocked and you need to have a transfer authorization code.

Step 2: Come shopify to transfer domain

Click Online Store  Domains from your shopify administrator
If it's your first domain to connect to your Shopify shop, then press Connect existing domain and then click Transfer to your domain.



Once you have a domain in your Shopify shop, click Domain Transfer:





Enter the domain to be transferred to Shopify. Don't include the your www. At the start of the domain.

Click Next. Click Verify domain.

You will see DOMAIN UNLOCKED if the domain is prepared to be transferred. Click Next to proceed. 

Enter the approval code or EPP code given to you by your domain supplier in the Verification code box.

Click Next. Click Buy and transfer.

Check the url-related email account for an email from your domain supplier. The email differs by domain supplier, but by clicking a connection like Confirm Transfer you need to approve the domain transfer




Once the domain transfer has been authorized, it requires up to 20 days to finish the transfer. You will obtain an email from Shopify confirming the transfer of your domain.
